The programme

A developing educational programme designed to help clinicians understand AI, evaluate it critically, and use it responsibly in healthcare.

Why it exists

In some ways, AI is already in the consulting room. Patients ask chatbots about their symptoms before approaching healthcare professionals, ambient scribes draft clinic notes, and new tools regularly arrive with confident claims.

Our course is built on one idea: to work safely with AI, not against it. You finish as a clinician who is informed, safe, and firmly in control.

What you’ll be able to do

By the end, you’ll be able to:

  • Explain in plain terms how AI tools, including large language models, produce their answers, and why a fluent answer can still be wrong.
  • Distinguish between genuine clinical advancement and good marketing.
  • Handle patient data safely and lawfully with any AI tool.
  • Spot the real, time-saving uses of AI in your day to day.
  • Notice when a chatbot is simply agreeing with you, or with your patient.
  • Ask patients about their own AI use, and recognise, record and report AI-related harm.
  • Help your team or organisation make sound decisions about AI, from policy to procurement.

How it works

Hybrid

The programme is being designed to combine concise independent learning with discussion and shared reflection.

Practical every time

Each unit ends with something you can use that week.

Community-based

Designed to support learning alongside clinicians from different specialties and professional backgrounds.

Grounded in real guidance

The course is built around the rules clinicians work under. That means UK guidance from bodies such as the MHRA and NHS England, alongside international frameworks such as the WHO's guidance on AI for health.

Honest about the evidence

We say plainly where the evidence is strong, where it's thin, and where it doesn't exist yet.

Who it’s for

Clinicians in any profession and at any stage of their career, and medical and dental students, wherever they work. You don't need any technical background.
